I'll remember Dick Kieppe and Shirley as the good looking couple next door at Orchard Beach. I knew little of his athletic success, but saw a very friendly neighbor, always smiling and ready with a positive comment. His family is a true testament to his down-to-earth and welcoming attitude; whether it was all the Kieppe sisters painting their shed or inviting us all to play volleyball. The last time my dad saw Dick, they didn't shake hands, they hugged and teared up - for how much they meant to each other.##imported-begin##bill staperfenne##imported-end##
Uncle Dick is one of my most favorite uncles. My earliest memory is a bit foggy but most of that is attributed to a little fear of his presence. He had such a grand physic and assertiveness and a deep voice. All that softened by his lovely wife and my favorite Aunt Shirley. But no matter, Uncle Dick was always smiling and happy to be around his daughters. God didn't give him a son but 4 great daughters. There may not have been a lot of football, but Uncle Dick made sure there were alligators in the bathtub, monkeys and lizards in the basement and Birds that Didn't Talk!! Notoriety with famous people: who would've guessed we would take Mark Harmon waterskiing or an Olympic skiier white water rafting or just fun. But the most famous of all is the 4th of July emcee with Uncle Lefty. Priceless. The dynamic duo - Dick and Bob, pranksters. They are going to have so much fun in heaven. And I can hear Shirley now,"OH Dick!"##imported-begin##Becky Farr Kauffman##imported-end##
