Judith Ann Bruer's Obituary
Judith Ann Bruer, age 78, of St. Clair, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 17, 2024. She was born on September 22, 1945 in Detroit to the late Warren and Agnes (Griest) Myers.
Judy was a graduate of Redford Union class of 1963. Following high school, Judy attended cosmetology school and began her career as a hair dresser, working with her mother for 18 years at their hair salon, Myers Hair Fashions. Judy returned to school earning an RN degree, graduating summa cum laude from Henry Ford Community College in 1983. Judy took great pride in helping people as a nurse, working at Harper, Mount Carmel, and Saratoga Hospital.
Judy met Paul Bruer in 2009, they were married on June 23, 2012.
She was a woman of many interests; after joining the Detroit Institute of Art, Judy volunteered as a docent, requiring one and a half years of training, then earning her 15-year pin as an interpretive guide. Judy loved gardening and joined the St. Clair Garden Club. She loved to dance whenever and wherever, including the Formal Dance Club. Judy’s singing voice was a beautiful soprano, singing with the choir at St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church in Warren. As an art lover, she was a member of the Scarab Club in Detroit. Most importantly, Judy had a deep and unwavering faith, she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church St Clair.
Travel was a joy, traveling to most countries in Europe, as well as Japan and Morrocco. She very much appreciated all the different views, cultures, and experiences that the world had to offer. Her favorite place of them all was Alaska.
Judy was all heart with a contagious smile. She looked for the positive in all situations and people. Kind, caring, and honest describe her. She was just darn likeable.
Judy is survived by her husband, Dr. Paul Bruer; daughter, Lisa (Eric) Williamson and their children, Benjamin and Jack; step children, Elizabeth Bruer and her daughter Penny, Jeffrey Bruer, Stephen Bruer, Abby (Dustin) Dunn and their children, Mason and Myles; her brother, Warren (Doreen) Myers; and niece, Lindsay Myers.
She is preceded in death by her previous husband, Douglas Collins, and sister-in-law, Denise Myers.
The family is grateful for all the support and prayers from their friends, neighbors, church and often strangers met along the way, rooting for our dearest Judy. A special thank you to the wonderful and skilled nursing staff at Karmanos Detroit.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 22, at 12 noon at L.C. Friederichs and Son Funeral Home, St. Clair. Visitation will be Sunday, January 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. as well as on Monday 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 prior to the service. A private interment will be on Tuesday at Glen Eden Cemetery, Livonia.
