Edward Charles Schnaubelt Jr.'s Obituary
Edward Charles Schnaubelt Jr, age 90, of China Twp, MI passed away Monday, December 6, 2021. Survived by sister Dolores Sarpolus, Nieces & Nephews, Mary (William) Mellerowicz, Edward & Victor (Laura) Sarpolus, Kathleen (James) Stamper, sister in-law Vickie Schnaubelt, including 12 Great nieces and nephews and 11 Great-Great nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his Parents Edward & Theresa Schnaubelt, his brother Donald, niece Maria Schnaubelt, uncles Alex, George and Edward Papke and brother in-law Victor Sarpolus.
Edward grew up in the City of Detroit, where early on demonstrated commitment to God, Family, Country, and Educator. Attended grade schools of St Edward and St Elizabeth, St. Leo High School, Christian Brothers Seminary in Washington D.C. and returned to graduate from U of D Mercy University. Prior to starting his career, he served in the U.S. Army stationed primarily in Europe. In the Army he began to demonstrate his multi-language abilities (achieved living in the multi-ethic communities of Detroit), His artistic and calligraphic skills in repair of damaged historical artifacts.
Upon completion of his Military Service, he started a lifelong passion of being an educator and big brother to the youth in the community. Driven to learn about his family ancestry of Part Kashubian and German he became a history teacher of 40 years in parochial schools. His love of painting and calligraphy led to his teaching art classes. He maintained teaching calligraphy to young students in his late seventies. Hobbies included hiking, drawing, and painting scenes from his adventures in Europe. Taking on calligraphic projects for local churches, weddings and almost any personal request. Being a big brother, he played basketball with former students even after retirement. Locally, helped local farmers where needed. He taught at St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School in St. Clair for almost 30 years.
Finally, in his commitment to his faith, in the last few hours of his life he was in prayer with sister, nephew and Catholic priest.
Visitation at LC Friedrichs and Sons Funeral Home, 214 Trumbull St, St. Clair, Mi., Friday December 17th , 2021 from 9:30am to 10:30am. Funeral Mass held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 415 N 6th St, St. Clair, MI. Burial directly after Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery. 3039 Rattle Run Rd. St. Clair, Michigan.
