Walter Austin Dunnigan's Obituary
Walter Austin Dunnigan, age 90, of St Clair, died Wednesday, January 4, 2023. He was born on March 2, 1932 in Detroit to the late Joseph and Gertrude Dunnigan. He married Patricia Ann Fleming on July 4, 1963, who preceded him in death on June 22, 2010. Walter honorably served his country in the United States Army for 2 years. He was an MP at West Point during the Korean War. He received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Michigan State University in 1958. Following college, he went on to work for the IRS. Retiring after 30 plus years of service. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. St. Clair.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Lois Madigan; brother, Joseph Franklin (Betty) Dunnigan; sister-in-law, Marise Dunnigan, as well as 28 nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Irene Jean Siklich, Kenneth Luke Dunnigan, and Edsel Faustinus Dunnigan.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, January 10th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clair. Visiting hours will be Monday, January 9th from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at L.C. Friederichs and Son Funeral Home, St. Clair. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Burial and military honors will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery following the funeral mass on Tuesday.
