Visa S. DeLong's Obituary
Visa DeLong passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, October 23, 2010. She was 93 years old. Visa was born August 11, 1917 in Memphis, MI to Mabel and Walter Wahls. She married Harold Kuecken, of Richmond, MI, January 3, 1936. To this union four children were born: Phyllis, Marvin, Diane and Janice. Harold died September 24, 1952. She married George DeLong, of St. Clair, MI, June 17, 1958. After marrying Geo, they expanded the resort that he owned on the St. Clair River in St. Clair, MI. In 1970 they sold DeLong’s Motel, Bait & Tackle Shop and floating docks and moved to Venice, Florida to Ridgewood Mobile Home Park where they resided for over 30 years. They enjoyed traveling all over the United States with their travel trailer and visiting with the children and grandchildren and attending the Kuecken Reunions. George passed away March 30, 2002.
Visa was a member of Lakeside Lutheran Church, Venice, FL, the musician for the Ladies Guild for many years and a member of the choir. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and played the organ and piano for many events at Ridgewood Mobile Home Park. In 2006 she moved back to MI to be closer to her family and moved into Mallard’s Landing, East China where she resided over three years. Visa enjoyed music, dancing and playing cards.
Survivors include her children Phyllis Langston-Glazier, Fowlerville, MI; Marvin Kuecken, Algonac, MI; Diane (Patrick) Shafer, St. Clair, MI; Janice (John) Rands, Cass City, MI. 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren. Her brother, Herbert Wahls, Coleman, MI and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Wendy Langston and her sister Loretta Zorn.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial will be held at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, 156 S.William, Marine City on December 4, 2010 at 11 o’clock. Pastor Troy Waite will preside. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately following the service. Arrangements by L. C. Friederichs & Son Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in Marysville Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Alzheimer Association or the Kuecken Reunion Fund.
