Victoria Hall Clifford's Obituary
Victoria R. Hall Clifford, age 91, of St. Clair, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 26, 2006.
Vicky was born January 15, 1915 in Chemung, New York. She grew up in Lorain, Ohio with five brothers who preceded her in death. Following two years at Bowling Green State College, Vicky was an elementary school teacher in Lorain Public Schools for several years.
In 1940, Vicky married Robert S. Hall of Bucyrus, Ohio. They lived in Louisville, Kentucky for seventeen years, having sons Bob, Gary and Doug Hall. The family moved to St. Clair in 1957. Tragically, husband Robert S. Hall died in 1960, and youngest son Doug Hall died in 1968. Vicky then devoted herself to her family and to many volunteer services including the American Cancer Society, the Red Cross Gray Lady program, and recording for the blind. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for almost 50 years.
Victoria married Robert P. Clifford, M.D. in 1970. He passed away twenty-eight years later, on February 27,1998.
Vicky loved music, especially the piano and organ. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, good books and was an outstanding Scrabble player. An avid bridge player, Vicky continued playing in local bridge clubs until after her 90th birthday.
She is survived by her sons, Robert B. (Dorothy) Hall of St. Clair, and Gary L. (Judy) Hall of Fort Gratiot; stepson Robert ''Bo'' Clifford of Los Angeles, and stepdaughter Jeannette Clifford_Washington of Detroit; granddaughters Kimberly Hall of Royal Oak and Elaina (Andrew) Marinik of Blacksburg, VA.; grandson Eric (Tawnya) Hall of Marysville; great-grandchildren Marshal and Alisyn Hall; and special nieces and nephews. Her grandson, Bradley Hall, died in 1990.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday at L.C. Friederichs & Son Funeral Home, 214 Trumbull, St. Clair. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday May 1 at the First United Methodist Church, 415 N. Third Street, St. Clair. Private interment will be conducted in Columbus, Ohio at a later date.
