Ruth Ohland Martin's Obituary
Ruth Ohland Martin of St. Clair died, Sunday July 10, 2011 after a brief illness. She was born September 11, 1914 in Detroit, the daughter of the late William F. Ohland and Jessie June Voorheis, formerly of Saginaw.
Ruth was employed for many years as an executive secretary at St. Clair County
Community College. After her retirement in 1979 she devoted much of her time to her hobby of family genealogy. In this endeavor she was a member of the Saginaw Genealogy Society, the St. Clair County Family History Group, and the Van Voorheis Genealogy Association. Ruth was an avid bridge player and greatly enjoyed the comradery of the Tuesday afternoon Senior Fellowship bridge games at the First Congregation Church in St. Clair.
She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn June Martin of, Marysville, two sons, Daniel R. Martin of Camas, Washington and K.B. (Roger) Martin of Panama City,
Florida, and two nieces and six nephews. She was preceded in death by her only sibling, June Ohland Sparks of Marine City and her sister-in-law Mary Martin Cavanagh of Novi.
Visitation 2-8 PM Wednesday in the L.C.Friederichs & Son Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Saginaw, MI., next to her, mother, sister, grandparents, aunts & uncles on the Voorheis family plot. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, because Ruth’s sister suffered from this terrible disease for over 16 years.
