Richard G. Hopkins' Obituary
Richard G."Dick" Hopkins, age77, of St. Clair, formerly of Lake Orion, passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He was born January 17, 1939 in Detroit to the late Arthur and Eleanor Hopkins.
He married Julya Poole on November 19, 1960 in Detroit. Richard faithfully served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1961.
He worked as a mechanical engineer for many years and enjoyed traveling in his retirement years. He loved boating and with his wife completed the Great Loop, cruising the eastern U.S. as a member of America's Great Loop Cruisers Association. He was a past commander of the United States Power Squadron, Warren Chapter. He also enjoyed farming, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife; Julya Hopkins, daughter; Katrina Hopkins, son; Shawn (Barbara) Hopkins, and his grandchildren; Sean and Megan Campbell and Lyssa Hopkins.
He is also survived by his brother; William (Anne) Hopkins, sisters; Lenore (Frank) Ruggerello, Mary Ellen (Bill) Hartsig, Madeline (Dale) Nelmark, and Susan (Walter) Elowski.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 30 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Clair. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. at L.C. Friederichs and Son Funeral Home, St. Clair and Friday at church one hour prior to the mass.
