Raymond W. Stocki's Obituary
Raymond William Stocki, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, 83, of St. Clair, passed on to eternal life on Sunday, April 25, 2021 after a long illness. He was born on March 4, 1938 to John and Josephine (Shafranski) Stocki in Detroit. He grew up on the farm in Riley Center, and graduated from Memphis High School at the top of his class in 1955. He went on to graduate from Lawrence Tech in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Ray worked for Detroit Public Lighting for 13 years, and then for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn for 27 years.
In 1959, he met the love of his life, Harriet (Hedy) Wisniewski. They married on June 23, 1962 at St. Hyacinth Church and embarked on an amazing 59 year adventure. They enjoyed travel, antiquing, their lovely Queen Anne home and especially their three children and six grandchildren.
Ray was extremely knowledgeable and helpful to all he knew. He inspired many a young person to become an engineer. He was always busy with some home improvement project. He was a life time member of the St. Clair Lions Club, and for several years he single-handedly assembled the Christmas Lying Stabloid publication. He was a long time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
In 1988, he and Hedy opened an antique shop, Old Times N Such. Weekends were spent garage saling and being busy running the shop. They traveled extensively, both in the USA and in Europe, enjoying old homes and historical sites. When he was 74, he and Hedy won a school raffle, to climb to the top of the Mackinac Bridge, it was a favorite memory. Other hobbies include eating out (he loved banana cream pie!), watching old movies, summers on the side porch. Most importantly, he was a loving grandfather. He loved his grandkids unconditionally. He was a great family man and is dearly loved and will be missed. We loved him for his quick wit and the twinkle in his eyes.
Ray is survived by his wife, Hedy, and their children: Kathy Stocki, Bob (Chris) Stocki and Debbie (Joe) Gibbons; 6 grandchildren: Rachel Stocki, Andy Stocki, Emily (Kyle) Gibbons McLouth, Lizzie Gibbons, Janie Gibbons and Ben Gibbons; four siblings: Tony Stocki, Carol Curley, Tom Stocki and Adele Beischer; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin Saturday, May 15 at 10:15 a.m. at L.C. Friederichs & Son Funeral Home, St. Clair and then process to St.Mary's Catholic Church, St. Clair for mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, St. Clair.
