Marion M Kelly's Obituary
KELLY, Marion M., Age 95 of Bartlett, Tennessee passed away on September 8th at Ave Maria Home in Bartlett.
Marion was born in St Clair, Michigan on May 11, 1917, the daughter of Henry and Jessie (Ameel) McCormick. She graduated from St Clair High School as the class valedictorian in 1936. Somewhat of a “tomboy” she excelled at softball, swimming, tennis and horseback riding. After graduating from high school she was employed by the Diamond Chrystal Salt Company as a secretary. On June 15, 1940 she Married Gerald Kelly and they had ten children. Her secretarial, leadership and communication skills were applied on many occasions for such groups as the Daughters of Isabel, various church and social boards, the Michigan Farm Bureau and Wales Township Elections Board. She devoted much of her ‘spare’ time to working with the elderly. Her sense of humor and ready smile made her a favorite among her many friends. She enjoyed gardening, card playing , travel with her husband, baseball, but most of all she treasured her family. She collected Belleek china, pewter and hat pins. She also loved music and was an accomplished pianist.
Marion is survived by a sister, Henrietta McLeod of St Clair, her children Patrick (Catherine) Kelly of Atlas, Michigan, Kathleen (Anthony) McGarry of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, Dr. Dennis Kelly of Holland, Michigan, Daniel (Susan) Kelly of Fort Collins, Colorado, Maureen (Jon) Carter of Memphis, Tennessee, Gerald (LeAnne) Kelly of Collierville, Tennessee, Colleen (Michael) Copeland of Staunton, Virginia, 25 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband of 70 years, Gerald, her parents, an infant son and sons James and Michael..
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Mary’s Catholic Church in St Clair, Michigan on October 20th at 10:00AM. Visitation will be at the church prior to the ceremony. Final internment will be in St Mary’s cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Friederichs Funeral Home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Ave Maria Foundation, 2805 Charles Bryan Rd
