Margaret Boyer's Obituary
Margaret Mitchell Boyer (Peg) passed away peacefully on November 15, 2010 at her home in St. Clair, Michigan at the age of 90 years. Peg was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Francis (Frank) Palms Boyer, her mother Dorothy Scott Mitchell and her sister Jane Scott Mitchell. She is survived by her devoted children Frank (Sandy), David (Pat), Mimi Boyer Dossin, Doug (Kathy), Marty, Mike (Judy), 17 grand children, 22 great grand children, 3 great-great grand children and her dear sister Elizabeth (Bixie) Mitchell Baker, 3 nephews, 2 nieces.
Peg was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 2, 1920 to Randall and Dorothy (nee: Scott) Mitchell. The second of three daughters, Peg graduated from Columbus School for Girls and her family then moved to Michigan. In 1937 Peg graduated from Grosse Pointe South High School and it was then she met Frank, the love of her life. They were married in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Detroit on November 23, 1940 until Frank’s death on December 31, 1990. Peg was a dedicated wife and mother, always thoughtful and supportive of all of her family’s needs.
Peg Boyer was an active member, volunteer and past president of The Junior League and Sigma Gamma Association. Although her family always came first, volunteer work was a large part of her life. She was a published poet, supportive of many non-profit organizations and an avid bridge player. Through her many activities, Peg formed life long friendships that remain to this day. For over 55 years her family has gathered for summers on Russell Island, a wonderful tradition initiated by both Peg and Frank and is carried on by her children to this day. Her entire family will always appreciate the many sacrifices their mother made for them throughout her life.
A memorial mass for Peg Boyer will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clair, Michigan. The Family will receive friends that morning in church from 9:30am until mass begins at 10:00am.
