Lawrence B. Avison Jr's Obituary
Lawrence B. Avison Jr., age 91, of St. Clair died, Thursday, September 6,2007.
Larry was born in Pittsburg,PA, on September 30,1915 to the late Lawrence and Marie Avison. Larry married Helen Virginia McBride on Aug. 9, 1941 in New York. He was a veteran of WW II serving as a naval officer in the Pacific theater, and was educated at the College of Wooster and Columbia University. Larry was awarded an honorary Doctorate from Adrian College . He served as the Executive Director of the Michigan Colleges Foundation from 1956 until his retirement in 1980. During his career he helped raise almost $75,000,000 for educational institutions and helped plan and supervise speaking engagements for many notable personalities, including, Winston Churchill, Gen Douglas McArthur and Gen George C. Marshall.
Larry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia, his daughter Ginger (the late David) Rank, two sons Lance (Judy) Avison and Chris (Connie) Avison, three grandsons, Charles,
Curtis and Patrick. He was also preceded in death by two brothers Richard and James Avison.
Cremation has taken place with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
