Katherine "Betsy" Bond's Obituary
BOYNTON BEACH - Katherine "Betsy" Bond, 88, passed away from natural causes on March 20, 2021 at her home with her daughter by her side. Betsy was born in Detroit Michigan on February 4, 1933 to Peter and Susan Martin.
She graduated Deaconess School of Nursing in January of 1955, and spent most of her nursing career in Labor & Delivery at various hospitals in the greater Detroit area, and even helped deliver one of Gordie Howe's sons.
That same year, she married Jim Janicki and had her children Larry and Carol. After his death in 1960, she continued on her nursing path which led her to the love of her life David Bond. They were married in 1962 and had 3 more children: Audrey, Mary Kay, and Patti. They both worked tirelessly and chose to buy their dream house in St. Clair Michigan, where they raised their family and had many happy years. She continued to live in St. Clair after David's untimely death in 1975.
Then, in 1986, she left Michigan and made her home in Florida, where she continued her nursing journey in the home health arena until her retirement, and broke ground on her home in Boynton Beach, to live with her daughter and be closer to her Florida family. She had never built a home from the ground up, and took such delight in choosing all the features and colors she knew would make her comfortable and happy.
Her family was her joy and treasure. She cherished each and every one of her children, grandchildren, and great-grands too. Her faith was strong and unwavering, and one of her favorite activities was going to daily and Sunday mass. This faith gave her strength and courage and hope always.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Elsie, Irma, and Irene as well as her brother Art.
Betsy is survived by her 5 children: Larry (Cheryl) Bond, Carol (Jeff) Lambert, Audrey Bond, Mary Kay (Chris) Martin, and Patti Bond. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Chris (Kevin) Bandlow, Jeff Bond, Laura (Joseph) Bray, Sarah (Ian) Hunt, David and Carly Silverman, Kevin and Erica Martin, and Chris Kaczwara as well as her beloved great-grands and a host of family and friends. She loved us all faithfully and fiercely.
In Florida, there will be a funeral mass held at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Boynton Beach on Friday, March 26 at 10 am.
In Michigan, there will be visitation at L.C. Friederichs and son Funeral Home in St. Clair on Tuesday, March 30 at 1pm. Family and friends are invited to say a few words during this time together, and the burial services will follow at Hillside Cemetery at 3pm.
Flowers are always welcome, however if you choose to make a memorial gift, an organization near and dear to her heart has always been the Wounded Warrior Project.
