John Ross Moffett's Obituary
John Ross Moffett, age 85, of St. Clair, passed away November 30, 2023. He was born May 3, 1938 in St. Clair to Amelia Phyllis Lavely Ross and Donald A. Ross. John’s mother, Amelia, predeceased John in 2007. John’s father was a teacher and principal in St. Clair and died in 1943. John’s step father, Dale E. Moffett, part owner of Ogden-Moffett Trucking Company in Port Huron, predeceased John in 1964.
John graduated from St. Clair High School in 1957. He continued his education by receiving his bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University. John’s teaching career was with the Brandon School District in Ortonville and the Battle Creek School District. Following teaching John owned and operated John Moffett Antiques in St. Clair.
John was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, St. Clair, where he was a choir member. He also attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clair, and was a member of their choir as well. His love of music continued with his membership with the St. Clair Singers and as a season ticket holder with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. John was also active with the St. Clair Theatre Guild. He also enjoyed traveling extensively. He remembers spending many happy summers at the cottage in Ontario. John also had great interest in the excitement, architecture, and crowds of big stadiums. Reading and antiquing were also interests of John’s. Over the years John also enjoyed the company of his dogs, Jodie and Josie.
John is survived by his cousins, Deborah Ingersoll of Texas, Priscilla (John Paul) Woodley and George Ingersoll of Virginia and Patricia (Randy) Roles of Minnesota; dear friends, Rose Scheuer and family and Olive Ann McCallum along with many other extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 11, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at L.C. Friederichs and Son Funeral Home, St. Clair. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair. Visitation will be Monday 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to service.
