Joann B. Heiss' Obituary
Joann B. Heiss, St. Clair, MI, entered eternal life on May 26, 2018. Joann was born on June 22, 1928, in Grafton, North Dakota, to Norwegian immigrant, Olaf and Marion (Midgarden) Fedje. She graduated from Hoople, ND, High School in 1946 and St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN, in 1950. She pursued graduate work at the Univ. of Pittsburgh, where she met John F. Heiss, whom she married in 1951. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2011. Together they raised 5 children—Ann Heiss Schulte (David), Paul (Lois) Heiss, Dr. John (Heather) Heiss, Mary E. Heiss (Mark Edwards), and Eric (Jennifer) Heiss. Joann took great pleasure and pride in her 10 grandchildren—Karin, David, Michael, Kara, John, Peter, Thomas, Anna, Benjamin, and Greta. Her 10 great-grandchildren gave her special delight. Survivors also include brother Noel I. (Judith) Fedje, and loving nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her sister; Isobel (Fedje) Johnson. Joann was a devout Christian and active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed learning, traveling and gardening, especially in association with the St. Clair Garden Club and Study Club. She was a loving, kind, and principled woman who lived her faith in service to others. Her family is grateful to the many caring friends and community members who together formed a circle of love and support that enriched Joann’s life and enabled her independence in her final years.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 1 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Clair. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at L.C.Friederichs and Son Funeral Home, St. Clair and one hour at church prior to the service.
