You were and always will be my Anam Cara.
I had the honor of having Jean for band in junior high and then high school. She was a remarkable teacher & has left a lifetime of memories for me. She will be greatly missed, both by myself, and the entire community.
Miss Bastian
I was Blessed to have you as my fifth grade music teacher and will always remember how you talked my father out of me playing the trombone and told my mother and father that you would suggest I play the flute because of my small stature.🤗🤗
I have so many fond memories of my years learning flute then oboe and continued threw St. Clair High with Don Weber. You will always have a place in my heart!! I wish I were playing for your sendoff. . . There is no better way to say Thanks to you 😇😇😇
Ms Bastian fills my memories of Junior High and High School in Marine City! (both band and choir) She lived near my grandpa in St.Clair and I would walk to her house to visit her. She was a great mentor, teacher, and friend!
Jean, you made high school band a place to belong and grow. I owe my career in the piano world to your teaching me harmonics. I'm grateful we reconnected much later and I thank you for helping me connect to classmates who mean so much. I share the admiration for you that everyone is expressing.
I had the honor of being Jean's oldest and last trombone student. My lessons grew longer and longer - partially because I was a beginning student and also because they developed into deep discussions and a wonderful friendship. We solved the problems of the world in our two hours together.
I am forever grateful to her for the East China Community Band, and the friendships made there. And most especially grateful for her saying "yes" to directing the Double Brass Quintet. We made beautiful music.
I knew Jean briefly when I taught at the Marine City Junior High School in the 1960s. To help us pass the time after students left, Jean organized the staff into a “band.” She made an indelible impression on me and I was priviledged to have a few words with her when I moved back to the Blue Water area after some sixty years. God rest you Jean! Nancy Madtes
Jean Bastian was remarkable and caring woman who always had time for her students and friends. Jean's talents were many and her love of music was indescribable. I often would see her walking her
"children" whom she loved with all her heart. She loved life and gave it her all. My heart aches to hear of her passing. Heaven received a very special angel last week, rest in peace Jean.
