James Edward Rocker's Obituary
James Edward Rocker of St. Clair formerly of Marysville, died Sept. 9.2007 He was born May 16, 1923 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. He graduated from St. Clair High School in 1942 and served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland, Germany. He received the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart.
He was a life time member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Clair, a member of the American Legion Post #382, the VFW and the National Wood Carvers Association. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time watching his many bird feeders.
He married Phyllis Schueneman on July 17, 1943 in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church by the Reverend G. W. Lenz and that 64 year union produced 3 children, 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife Phyllis, sons Gary Rocker (Linda) of Oxford, MI, Dennis Rocker (Barbara) of China, MI and Jay Rocker (Paulette) of Hudson, WI. He is also survived by sister-in-laws Betty Rocker, Dorothy Schueneman, Lois Leverenz and brother-in-law Kenneth Leverenz along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father Hazel and Edward Rocker, step father Rex Richter, his brother Gerald Rocker and brother-in-law Carmen Schueneman.
Visitation will be at Friederichs’ Funeral Home in St. Clair on Tuesday 7-9pm and Wednesday 2-5 and 7-9pm. He will lie in state at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Clair on Thursday at 10am with the funeral service will begin at 11am presided by the Reverend Roland Troike. Internment will be at Hillside Cemetery in St. Clair. A luncheon at the church will follow the funeral service. Pall Bearers will be Chris Barth, James C. Rocker, Scott A. Rocker, Alan Emerich, Timothy Leverenz and Eric Rocker.
