James Sherrill's Obituary
James Alexander Nicolson Sherrill, age 81, passed away on July 30, 2025, in New Baltimore, Michigan. Born on May 19, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, Jim lived a life marked by dedication to his work, deep connections with his Deaf community, and unwavering love for his family.
For over five decades, Jim worked as a welder. He took immense pride in his craft and found joy in the camaraderie of his workplace. His commitment to showing up each day with enthusiasm and purpose was a testament to the strong work ethic that defined much of his life.
Jim was well known throughout St. Clair, where he and his late wife Connie were familiar faces around town. Their presence was unmistakable—Jim standing tall at 6'1", often seen beside Connie’s petite 4'10" frame. Together they shared 37 years of marriage before her passing. Their bond left a lasting impression on those who knew them.
A friendly and thoughtful man, Jim had an extraordinary memory for birthdays—he never forgot a single one. This small but meaningful gesture reflected the care he extended to everyone he met. His warmth and approachability made him a beloved figure in the community.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Jody Young-Woodbury (William Woodbury) and Keri Burke (Chris); his grandchildren Blake Young (Natasha), Joshua Young, Blaise Burke, Harlan Burke, and Emilia Burke; and by his three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Connie; his son James Sherrill Jr.; his siblings Jeanne and Bruce; and his grandson Hudson.
The family will be holding a private memorial at a later date.
Jim’s legacy lives on through the many lives he touched—with sparks from both his welding torch and his generous heart. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
