Mrs Jacquelyn Simons' Obituary
Jacquelyn Simons passed peacefully from this earthly life on January 29, 2015 surrounded by her loving caregivers at Wadhams Creek Sr Living Home. She was born in St. Albans, VT. on March 19, 1916 to the late Walter and Leland Rhodes Chaffee. The family moved to Port Huron when Jackie was 5 years old and she resided in St. Clair County since. Graduating from Port Huron High School in 1934, she was hired by Acheson Collides to work in their lab as a Quality Control Technician.
She married Malcolm Simons on Nov. 5, 1949 and together they had 3 daughters, Malcolm passed away September 24, 2012.
As a young woman she was a top bowler in the area and bowled for fun for many years in various leagues. As a member of St. Clair First United Methodist Church, she served in many capacities including Sunday School Teacher, Religious Education Director, Liturgist and Lay Minister. Jackie loved to read and was a life long learner. Her travels took her to lots of interesting places and she volunteered thousand of hours as a “Pink Lady” at St. John’s River District Hospital.
Jackie valued education and encouraged young people she meet to pursue higher learning if at all possible, to that end, she anonymously sponsored modest scholarships in both academics and music for deserving students.
Jackie is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Simons, DVM (Joseph Roehl, DVM), a grandson Cameron Roehl and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Malcolm, twin daughters Marilee and Melanie, her brothers, Walter R. Chaffee and Paul S Chaffee, DVM and her parents. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, April 18, in the First United Methodist Church, St. Clair Memorials to Heartland hospice or First United Methodist Church, St. Clair
