Hon. Thomas Maher's Obituary
The Hon. THOMAS A. MAHER, 87, of St. Clair, MI, died on Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, KS. He had been visiting in Lawrence the past several months.
He was born on October 23, 1917 in New York, New York, the son of Walter & Irene Flannigan Maher. He had lived for many years in Michigan and had lived several years in the Grosse Pointe, MI and Kansas City areas.
Mr. Maher was a retired Probate Judge in Michigan. He retired in 1987.
He was a 1935 Graduate of Yorktown High School in New York and was a 1939 graduate of Notre Dame University in South Bend, IN. He later graduated from the Harvard University Business School and the Detroit College of Law. He was a World War II, U.S. Navy veteran.
He was a member of the Notre Dame University Alumni Association, the Irish Lawyers Association, the Michigan Bar Association and the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clair. He formerly was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roeland Park, KS and the St. Clair Catholic Church in Grosse Pointe, MI.
He was married to Florence Ridley on June 27, 1941. She preceded him in death on February 2, 1994. He later married Elizabeth “Betty” Loznak on December 27, 1997 in St. Clair, MI. Other survivors include: four daughters, Donna Peake of Naples, FL, Elaine Riordan of Lawrence, KS, Loretta Chudy of Leawood, KS, Lorraine McLaughlin of San Antonio, TX, two step-daughters, Karen Loznak Ferguson of New Castle, NH, Kathleen Loznak McGovern of Grosse Pointe Park, MI, two sons, Thomas Maher of Cincinnati, OH, William Maher of Sterling Heights, MI, two stepsons, Charles Loznak of Portland ME, Richard Loznak of St. Clair, MI, a brother, Robert Maher of New Fairfield, CT, thirty one grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James Maher and a sister, Geraldine McCarty.
Visitation Friday in L.C. Friederichs & Son Funeral Home 2-4 and 6-9 PM, St. Clair from with Rosary at 7 PM. Funeral Mass Saturday at 10 AM. from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family suggests memorials in his name to the St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, KS, the Michigan Relief Services or to the Detroit Rescue Mission and Ministries.
