Glen Wendel Yakes Jr.'s Obituary
Glen Wendel Yakes Jr., age 81, of Bloomfield Hills, deeply beloved and devoted father and grandfather, passed away on June 16, 2006, at the borne of his daughter, Dr. Batbara Yakes, where he spent the last seven years of his life lovingly cared for by his daughter, his grandson Allen, his son-in-law Richard and his former spouse Marie. Preceded in death by his parents, Laura and Glen; his brothers Brent, Bill, and Jack; and his beloved son Louis. He was born January 26, 1925, in Detroit attended Wayne State University, and served in the US Army during WWIL where he was recognized for his boxing skills and excellence in carbine rifle marksmanship. He worked for the Detroit Board of Education as a steam engineer in charge of powerhouse operations at several large schools until he retired to enjoy his family and passions. He spent countless hours sharing his knowledge and love for gardening, history, geography, chemistry, firearms, and nature''s beauty with those around him. He was cherished by his daughter and will be remembered by all who came to know him for his kindness and vast knowledge. He loved good food, dogs, classical music, and going up north for summers with his family on Grand Traverse Bay. He leaves behind his daughter Barbara, grandson Allen, sisters Mary and Laura, and many nieces and nephews. He valiantly struggled to stay with those he loved as long as God would allow and had much left to teach us. He will be deeply missed forever by his family. Visitation, Wednesday from 2-9 PM at the L.C. Friederichs & Son. In state Thursday from St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 9:30 till mass at 10 AM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery
