Gladys Campbell's Obituary
Gladys M. Campbell, age 88, a lifelong resident of St. Clair, died Saturday, November 6, 2010. Gladys was born in St. Clair on October 27, 1922 to the late Russell and Laura (Butlin) Balfour. She married Vern R.Campbell on January 23, 1942 and he preceded her in death in September, 2007. Gladys was an interior decorator and owned Wallpaper World in St. Clair. She was a life member of the First United Methodist Church, St. Clair and was deeply involved in church activities. She was an active volunteer with her girls in scouting, River District Hospital Auxiliary and many other community organizations. She was always willing to volunteer any of her considerable skills when called upon, which she frequently was.
Gladys loved to sew for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always had a garden. She loved flowers and could be counted on for beautiful arrangements for any event. She golfed and played bridge several times every week. She cherished time spent with her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Gladys is survived by three daughters: Jean (Dan) Saunders; Patty Campbell and Jackie (Tom) Laughlin. Grandchildren: Hannah (Mick) Hannan; Shelly Saunders; Matt (Kate) Laughlin and Andrew (Jen) Laughlin. Great-grandchildren: Campbell and Zoe Hannan; Lilly, Phoebe, Porter and Clara Saunders: Jack, Samantha and Elle Laughlin; her sister Donna (Bob) Tassie and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Linda; her grandson Jonas Saunders and her brothers Earl and Kenneth Balfour.
Cremation has taken place and the family will receive friends Sunday, November 14, from 1-4 PM at the L.C. Friederichs & Son Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 15, at 11 AM at the First United Methodist Church, St. Clair. Memorials may be made to the church or the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation - Linda R.
