Gerald L. Nichols' Obituary
Gerald L. Nichols, age 94, of St. Clair, passed away on January 20, 2026. He was born on December 30, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Leonard and Johanna Nichols.
Gerald proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. During boot camp, he met his lifelong friend of more than 80 years, Tom Hogan, with whom he spoke every day, a friendship that remained constant throughout his life.
A passionate aviator, Gerald was involved at the St. Clair County Airport in Marysville. He owned five airplanes and even built one from scratch. He also participated in a special airport program that gave local children the opportunity to experience the joy of flight through airplane rides, something he found especially meaningful.
Gerald was able to remain in his home for as long as possible thanks to the incredible care and kindness of his neighbors in St. Clair, the Harder and Boni families, whose support meant so much to him and his family. They were also immensely grateful for the devoted help of his housekeeper, Cindy Dutcher, who provided care and assistance.
Gerald is survived by his children, Catherine (Steven) Glaser and Jeffrey (Cheri) Nichols; his grandchildren, Jake and Clare; and his great-grandchildren, Eli and Blake. He is also survived by his sister, Doris Lucas.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Nichols; his parents, Leonard and Johanna Nichols; and his brother Fred Nichols.
