Florence Ellen Sauber's Obituary
Florence Ellen Sauber, 91, of St. Clair died Thursday, April 15, 2010. She was born
December 5, 1918 in Smiths Creek Michigan. Following graduation from St. Stephen High School, Port Huron, she attended Nazareth College in Kalamazoo, Michigan,
and graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
After graduation, she was secretary to the chief engineer at Chris-Craft Corporation in Algonac. On July 1, 1943, she married William H. Sauber in Hobbs, New Mexico where he was stationed during WW II. During that time, she was secretary to the base chaplain. Bill, her beloved husband of fifty-six years, preceded her in death in November, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Olive, and a brother, John.
After her children were raised, she pursued a life-long interest in art and photography.
Beautiful scenes she remembered from her travels were captured and preserved in her paintings.
Florence is survived by her four children, William F. Sauber, Ellen (Bill) McCumby, Joanne (Bill) Stein, and John (Paula) Sauber; ten grandchildren, Dani and Grant Sauber, Mark (Kelly) McCumby, Jill (Matt) Zimmer, Matthew (Kari) Stein, Brian (Becky) Stein, Courtney Stein, Jack, Jessica and Rachel Sauber; seven great grandchildren, Jacob and Connor McCumby, Ryan, Colin and Ashlyn Zimmer, Lena and Luke Stein; her brother, George Fish; and many dear nieces and nephews.
Visitation at the L.C.Friederichs & Son Funeral Home, Saturday and Sunday from 2-6 PM. In State Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, from 9:30 till mass at 10 AM.
Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John Hospice or donors choice
