Ellen Meno age 91 of St. Clair died Friday August 20, 2004. She was born in Czarist, Russia on February 22, 1913, in the village of Rowne. Ellen and her family fled Russia in 1917 during the Bolshevik Revolution. She graduated Valedictorian from Waucusta High School in 1929 and was Miss Lansing in 1931. She met George Meno in Lansing where he was a student at Michigan State College(MSU). They were married June 17, 1937, onboard the S.S. Ben E. Tate where her future father-in-law was Captain, Frank L. Meno. During WW II, hse and her husband moved to Tacoma, Washington to work in the Tacoma, Shipyard. George preceded Ellen in death in 1974. Mrs. Meno was a long time member of the first Congregational Church, UC of C, St. Clair, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and costumed the holiday pageants. She was one of the founding members of the St. Clair Theater Guild, costuming many, many shows. She was active in Girls Scouts. George and Ellen were charter members, volunteers and contributors of the St. Clair Historic Society. Her two daughters, Stephanie Shapiro and Carol Teeple, survive her. Grandchildren James Minor, Andrea Minor, Kevin (Kirsten) Shapiro, Mark (Lisa) Shapiro, Thomas Teeple and Jacob Dillon. Great grandson Corey Teeple. Two sisters, Nina Trierweiler and Tanya Danby and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband George, She was also preceded in death by Son-in-Law D. J Shapiro and Brothers John and Daniel Kornechuk, sisters Sonya Hanson, Lene Kornechuk and Eva Titus. Visitation Monday from the L.C. Friederichs & Son Funeral Home from 6-9 PM with service Tuesday at 11 AM in the First Congregational Church, St. Clair, Rev Lynne Chamberlain officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery. Memorials to the Church.
