Edward D. Schumacher's Obituary
Edward D. Schumacher St. Clair Michigan, died November11 ,2005, at the MediLodge of St. Clair.
Born October 16, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan to Hazen J. Schumacher and Julia Schumacher. Known as Ted, he graduated from Grosse Pointe South High School in 1946. In 1950, he married Marie P. Smith. They raised 8 children in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Succeeding his father, he became president and owner of Gardner and Schumacher, Wholesale Furniture on Washington Blvd, in downtown Detroit.
Ted was a member of CBDA in Detroit; the Washington Boulevard Building Owner’s Association; and the Detroit Rotary. He was very active in downtown associations until he closed his business after 53 years and sold the building. He spent his retirement years in St. Clair, Michigan, where living on the St. Clair River was his great joy. Boating, fishing and freighters were of great interest and he knew the name and dimensions of every freighter that traveled the river.
He is survived by his wife Marie, all eight children: E. David(Jill), Paul, Robert(Sue), Jane (Larry) Sirignano,Carole Burton, Stanley, Ellen, and Hazen; brother Hazen Jr, and sisters Nancy O’Shea and Julie Bird Montgomery; and six grandchildren: Abram Sirignano, Krystyna, Carl, Laura Schumacher, Nathan,&Sarah Burton
A memorial Mass planned at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 415 N. 6th, St. Clair, Michigan, at 10 AM Monday, November 14. Memorial contributions may be made to St.Mary’s renovation project. Arrangements L.C. Friederichs & Son Funeral Home, St. Clair, MI
