Donald J. Blain's Obituary
Donald Joseph Blain, age 78, of St.Clair, died August 24, 2011. He was born in St.Clair on January 30, 1933 to the late Clarence and Annetta (Benson) Blain. He graduated from Holy Cross High School. He served his country during the Korean War in the Army. He enjoyed his last career of wheeling the freighters on the Great Lakes. Don was an active member of St.Mary's Catholic Church, St.Clair. He enjoyed flea markets and garage sales searching for nautical memorabilia and helping others. He was a life long member to numerous Great Lakes historical museums and was an avid reader of Great Lakes history and many other activities.
He is survived by his brothers; Robert (Doris) Blain and Charles "Ed" Blain; sister in-law Dorine (Dandron) Blain; nieces Cheri ( Thomas) Malleis, Cynthia Jondron, and nephews; Clarence "Fred" (Barbara) Blain II, and Charles "Chuck" (Rhonda) Blain II; great nieces; Debra (Jeffery) Drexler, Alisha (Jason) Wolfsen, Nicole Blain; great nephews; David Golden, Jacob and Joshua Blain. He is also survived by a great-great niece and nephew Sydney and Zachary Drexler. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother Clarence "Jake" Blain and sister Carol Blain. Don was also loved and supported by his neighbors.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday August 29 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, St.Clair. Visiting hours will be Saturday from 5 to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at L.C. Friederichs and Son Funeral Home, St.Clair and at church from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. prior to mass. A rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
