Donald E. "Wompy" Hyslop's Obituary
Donald "Wompy" Hyslop, age 68, of St. Clair, passed away August 16, 2021. He was born August 4, 1953 to the late Eugene D. and Margaret (Wolfe) Hyslop.
Don worked at New Haven Foundry until its closing, and then Riverside Tank until his retirement in 2018. Don was a longtime member of the St. Clair Lions Club, where he was affectionately known as Smoke(y). He was an active member of the community, and also a member of the FOE in Hale.
Wompy was well known in the area, a legend in his own right. He was a frequent visitor of many local watering holes, and always looked forward to "Thirsty Tuesday" with his crew. He enjoyed going up to his cabin and traveling the backroads to get there.
Don is survived by his sister and brother in law; Carol and Russ Jones of St. Clair, his brother and sister in law; Michael and Vivian Hyslop of Clyde, and his nieces; Michelle (Dean) Malcolm, Amanda Jones, Ashley (Dan) Gryszkiewicz, and Deanna Hightower, along with many great nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends. He especially enjoyed giving Porter, Keagan, Payton, Claire and Eli a hard time.
Pallbearers will be; Porter Malcolm, Dan Zacharias, Jeff "Chicken" Pegg, Bill Karas, Tom Biscarner, Jack Tallman and Bernie Zaremba.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 21 at L.C. Friederichs and Son Funeral Home, St. Clair. Visiting hours will be Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to the service. Please feel free to dress casually.
