Donald Barnum's Obituary
Don Barnum, age 84, of St. Clair, died peacefully, following a long illness, with his family at his side on March 20, 2009.
He was born September 1, 1924 to Elmer and Margaret Barnum.
On July 15, 1953 Don married Barbara "Buzz" Baker. She preceded him in death in 2006.
Don sailed on the Great Lakes for ten years, serving as a second mate. Following his sailing career he was a painter, retiring at age 76.
Don was active with Little League Organizations in Marine City, St. Clair, and Marysville.
He was actively involved in community politics and was instrumental with the construction and dedication of the Marysville War Memorial.
He is survived by his daughters, Bobi (Dave) Barber and Benee (Mark) Galvin; grandchildren, Shane "Tiger" (Karen) Hollingshead, Benee (Mel) Wehrwein, Jeremy (Tabatha) Barber, Justin (Kim) Barber, Danna, Brady, and Dane Galvin; 5 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and faithful companion, Buzz.
He was preceded in death by brothers Dick and Glen Barnum and sisters Lee McDonald and Myrt Rocker.
Cremation will take place and a private graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice or St. Clair Co. Humane Society.
