Burton A. Groff age 104 of St. Clair died Wednesday, November 16, 2005. Burt was born December 3, 1900, in Lake Odessa, Michigan to the late John and Margaret Groff. He graduated from the University of Michigan School of Pharmacy in 1925. Burt married Julia Baker on November 16, 1935 and she preceded him in death in 1995. He moved to St. Clair in 1944 and open Groff Drug Store, which he ran with his son Bob, for many years. Burt was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the St. Clair River Country Club, member and past President of the St. Clair Rotary, a member and past president of the St. Clair County Pharmaceutical Association, and a member of the Board of Directors of the former Commercial & Savings Bank. He enjoyed reading and golfing, carding two hole in one’s, the last at age 95. Burt is survived by his two Sons, Robert (Carolyn) Groff and Richard (Nancy) Groff. His grandchildren Bob (Kristy) Groff, Tom (Lori) Groff, Ellen Groff, Sarah (Chris) Wright, Sharon Groff, Stephanie (Tom) Winkler and Gena (Stein) Koss. Great grand children Olivia, Braedan, Drew and Walker Groff, Sophia Wright, Ally & Hannah Winkler, Alexa and Grace Koss. He was also preceded in death by a brother William and sister Nellie Copeland. Visitation Sunday from 12 noon till 7 PM in the L.C. Friederichs & Son Funeral Home, St. Clair, with Rosary at 6:30 PM. In state Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Set. Clair from 9:30 AM till mass at 10 AM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorials in Burt’s name may be directed to St. Mary’s School, 800 Orchard, St. Clair. Arrangements by L.C.
