Blakely Gordon Jordan's Obituary
Blakely Gordon Jordan, age 86 of St. Clair, died March 3, 2009. He was born February 5, 1923 in Americus, Georgia to James Gordon and Lila Jordan. He married the late Shirley Grubbs on May 11, 1946.
Mr. Jordan was a WWII United States Navy veteran He took part in the invasion of South France on a LST140. He attended the University of Louisville earning his bachelors and masters of business administration.
He was employed by Diamond Crystal Salt Co. for over thirty years and retired as general manager of sales and marketing. Mr. Jordan was very active in the St. Clair area and was a member of the St. Clair Rotary, St. Clair Dance Club, St. Clair River Country Club, River District Hospital Development Committee, and the Otsi Keta Yacht Club.
Following his retirement he wintered in Deerfield Beach, Florida where he continued as and avid gardener, boater and golfer.
Mr. Jordan is survived by his three children Anita (Ken) McIntyre, Blake Lee (Diane) Jordan, and Sherrill (Christopher) Zimmer. Shirley preceded him in death in July of 1976 and he then married Dottie Wills on February 5, 1977. This united Dottie’s family of 3 daughters with his own family. He is also survived by his three step-daughters Kathy (Dick) Tragemann, Nancy Wills, and Sally (Grant) Achatz. Dottie preceded him in death on January 25, 2007. He is the loving grandfather of 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren. Cherished brother of Dorothy Sanders. Predeceased by sisters; Vera Maxwell and Betty Johnson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11am at L.C. Friederichs & Son Funeral Home, St. Clair with the Rev. Glenn Stone Officiating. Internment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, St. Clair.
