Betty Jean Rocker's Obituary
Betty Jean Rocker, age 99, of St. Clair, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 3, 2023. She was born March 13, 1923 in Detroit to the late Walter and Lillian McKay. Betty married Harold Butlin in March of 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1959. She then married Gerald Rocker in June of 1962 and he preceded her in death in 2002.
Betty enjoyed volunteering as a Pink Lady at River District Hospital. She was also a Girl Scout leader in the late 40’s and early 50’s. Betty loved sailing with Harold on the boat he built and named after her “Betty J”. She sewed and made many dolls for her grandchildren and the Bizarre at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She also was very proud of tending to her yard and tending to all her flowerbeds. But most of all Betty loved the time she spent with her family, especially the time with all of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Jim Butlin, Carol (Bernie) Sustrich; step children, Mary (Tony) Vargo, Leanne (the late John) Ladensack, 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 18 great great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death by her brother, Walter; sisters, June, Eva, Dorothy; grandsons, John McFadden and Dean Vargo.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday March 8, 2023 at 11a.m. at L.C. Friederichs and Son Funeral Home with visitation on Tuesday March 7, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. along with 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
