Mrs Velma J Minor

October 21, 1921 - April 24, 2013

St. Clair Velma J. (Hodgins) Minor, age 91 of St. Clair went to be with the Lord on April 24, 2013. Velma was born on October 21, 1921, in Detroit to the late Mabel and William Hodgins. She married Edward Minor on July 9, 1937 in Angola Indiana and shared almost 60 years together until his death in 1996. Velma lived her life for her family. In her own words, Velma considered herself a homemaker and the she loved to cook big meals, fry fish and bake for her family. Many of us watched over the years how Velma and Ed poked each other, but that was their way. They often could be found side by side in a small fishing boat out on the St. Clair River. Velma and Ed spent some 50 years going between St. Cloud, Fl in the winter and moving back to Michigan in the summers. She and Ed lived in Marysville, St. Clair and Marine City, Some of Velma's true passions included camping, traveling, reading, fishing and in later years casinos. But everyone that knew Velma would say that her greatest passion was playing cards with friends and family while enjoying her favorite hard candy. Velma is survived by a son Edward Minor, Waynesville, N.C., daughter Patricia (Lewis) Weygandt, Gainesville, FL, daughter Elizabeth (Donald) Eckert, St.Clair, daughter Kay Ann Minor, St. Cloud, Fl, 12 grandchildren, 24 great grand and 3 great great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Bill Hodgins and Eugene Shaver, all whom she truly enjoyed and loved. She was also preceded in death by her son Bill J. Minor, brother Glenn Hodgins and sister-in-laws Betty Hodgins, Shirley Hodgins and Betty Shaver. Thank you Velma. You touched many people and you will live on in our memories through your recipes, your card games and most importantly the examples you set for us as a True Mother, Wife, Grandma and Friend. Your loyalty and dedication to those roles will live forever.. Heaven has gained an honest and honorable woman today. Go in peace to be with the Lord, and the love of your life Ed. We love you Velma Visitation for the beloved Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 in the L.C Friederichs & Son In state Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 9:30 AM till mass at 10 AM.
