Raymond D. Ellis, 90, of St. Clair, Michigan died Sunday, March 11, 2012. He was born on June 14, 1921 in Ypsilanti to the late Percy and Ethel Ellis, who emigrated from England and Wales. He married the late Ruthann Marcle Kortier on December 26, 1948, and she passed in 2007. Raymond worked on the family farm throughout his youth and graduated from Pinckney High School at the age of 15 in 1937. He was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy from 1942-1946. Following military service, he helped established a new VFW Post in Pinckney, where he served as its first quartermaster. After some farming, he sailed on the Great Lakes for two years. Ray worked for the Detroit Edison Company in Trenton and St. Clair, Michigan for a total of 34 years. He retired as an Operating Shift Supervisor in 1983. While raising his family in St. Clair, Ray was involved in Little League Baseball, Camp Fire Girls, 4-H, and Boy Scouts. Ray was especially keen on country music, gardening, home projects, and family camping, but his passion was baseball; he appreciated good baseball no matter who played. Ray and Ruthann enjoyed the St.Clair Township senior group and traveling throughout the United States and parts of Canada. Raymond Ellis is survived by six children,Terry (Tonja), Robert (Patricia), Kathy, Linda (Thomas)Emerich, Andrew (Natalie), Susan (Skip) Romines, ten grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren and brother-in-law, Robert Kortier. Preceded in death by sister, Dorothy Wilson. Visitation, Wednesday from 2-8 PM in the L.C. Friederichs & Son Funeral Home.
