December 31, 1923 - May 13, 2022
June Elizabeth Ingles, age 98, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022. June was born in St. Clair to the late Omar Jacob Bell and Agnes Catherine Wuest on December 31, 1923. June graduated from St. Clair High School in 1942. Her activities in high school included dance and cheerleading. She also met the love of her life, Bill, whom she married on June 3, 1944. June and Bill loved to dance to the big bands that would come to play in Detroit and the surrounding areas. They traveled together around the United States in their motorhome, along with friends and family. June and Bill particularly enjoyed attending auto racing events throughout the U.S. and Canada, and were members of the Blue Water Sports Car Club. After raising her family, June graduated from nursing school in 1977 at the age of 53. She worked at the River District Hospital for 17 years as a nurse aide and LPN up until her retirement. Throughout her life, June belonged to many social groups and loved being around and interacting with people. She was passionate about her city and its history; volunteering at the St. Clair Historical Museum for over 50 years, right up until her passing. She was chairperson of the museum for many years and spent the last ten years as the corresponding secretary. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were so proud that their grandma led the school tours of the museum for their field trips. June was a member of the First Congregational Church for 75 years, where she was the church treasurer and secretary. She volunteered at many weddings, funerals and other church events. She was also an active participant in bible study and made pies for the church to sell at fundraisers. June adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made them quilts, took them on trips, and attended school athletic events, concerts, plays and other activities. She helped her grandchildren trace their genealogy and loved to share stories and photos of her childhood and the history of St. Clair. She made each of her grandchildren huge photo albums of their childhood and gave them as gifts which are cherished to this day. June enjoyed gardening and her beautiful tulips were just opening up as she passed. June is survived by her children Cliff (Barb), Debbie, Tom and Dave (Alaina); grandchildren Billy, Dawn, Luke (Christel), Nick (Annie), Peter, Monika (Christian), Carmen (Sean), Kim (Justin), T.J., Nathan (Laura) and Kellie (Justin); 20 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Bill, sisters Loretta (Clarence) and Hazel (Bob), daughter Penny, son Bob, daughter-in-law Peggy, and grandson Matthew. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at the First Congregational Church in St. Clair, with a gathering of family and friends from 10:00 to 11:00. Memorials are suggested to the First Congregational Church or the St. Clair Historical Museum. To leave a message of comfort, please visit www.lcfandson.com.
