Carl C. Haas, 62, lost his courageous eleven month struggle with bile duct liver cancer on Thursday, January 28 in Naples, Florida. He was born on October 8, 1947 to Agness and Christian B. Haas in Detroit, Michigan. He married Beverly Jean Schmidt on June 12, 1977. Survived by his wife, daughter, Nicole (Alexander) Kollock, granddaughter Madeleine, San Francisco, sister, Linda (William) Forster, Naples, Florida and brother John (Cynthia) Haas of St. Clair, Michigan, eleven nieces and nephews , sixteen great nieces and nephews and one great, great niece. He was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur and parents. He was a graduate of St. Clair High School, attended the University of Michigan, was a graduate of Wayne State University and a Certified Public Accountant. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, St. Clair River Country Club, St. Clair Rotary Club, Bay Harbor Yacht Club, Bay Harbor Golf Club, Grey Oaks Country Club, La Playa Beach & Golf Club, St. Clair Investment Club, American Institution of Public Accountants, Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, Society of Plastic Industry, Society of Plastic Engineers. In June, 2009, Mr. Haas was named citizen of the year by the St. Clair Rotarians for his service and dedication to the community. In 1970, he joined the Certified Public Accountant firm of Carabell, Bocknek, Straka and Jarackas. In 1978 he went to work for the family business of Blue Water Plastics, Inc. in St. Clair, Michigan. He became President and Chief Executive Office in 1979 at the untimely death of his brother and father. Under Carl’s direction, he led the corporation through an unprecedented era of growth and global expansion. The company was sold to Sarna, Inc. of Switzerland in July, 2000 and he retired in 2002. Carl loved almost all sports, but was an especially avid golfer. He loved the University of Michigan and was a loyal football fan and season ticket holder for 40 years. Carl was a loyal and generous friend and an excellent businessman. He was supportive to those who needed assistance in pursing their dreams and was respected by all, whether working on a committee or playing a great round of golf. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure and honor of knowing him. Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 on Monday, February 1 and Tuesday, February 2. at L.C. Friederichs & Son Funeral Home, St. Clair. Funeral services will be at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 123 S. Seventh, St. Clair, Michigan. on Wednesday, February 3 at 11:00 am with visitation at the church at 10:00 am. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, February 8 at 4:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Naples, Florida .
