“A breath away is where you are . . .” Bill the Butler is no longer a breath away from his Wild Canadian Rose – Zig and Ellie again complete their circle of love. “Sonny,” “Ziggie”, “Art”, “Father”, “Daddy”, and “Dad” . . . Arthur Henry Ziegenfelder answered to several names. Sonny was born December 25, 1927, in Detroit to the late Arthur A. and Norma Ziegenfelder, where he grew up with his many brothers and sisters. Once World War II broke out, Ziggie was eager to join up to serve his country. To his oft-expressed dismay, he was unable to join the Navy until February 1946. Petty Officer 3rd Class Arthur Ziegenfelder served his country aboard the Mine Layer Harry F. Bauer, until December 1947. Ziggie met his heart Eleanor Krivens through the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) and they married May 7, 1949 at St. Jude’s Church in Detroit. Ziggie made his career in the tool and die industry as a gifted layout man ending as an industry-respected manager at the world-leading Atlas Tool & Die. Zig & Ellie raised their children variously in Roseville, Clinton Township, and Detroit, finally moving to St. Clair for their retirement years joining the St. Mary’s Catholic Church parish. During his retirement, Zig further developed his interest in model ship-building when his skill became such he was able to recreate a ship from a mere paper cross-view. Zig was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 ½ years, Eleanor, their two daughters, Angela and Lorraine, who died at birth, and his brothers James; Thomas; Donald; and Paul Ziegenfelder. Together Zig and Ellie leave the legacy of their Jewels: EIGHT CHILDREN and their spouses – Sharon and Don Smith, Mary Kustrzyk, Peggie and Al Reeves, Elizabeth Ziegenfelder (Davis), Susan and Tom Ingles, Peter and Stacy Ziegenfelder, Elaine and Bob Sewell, and Paul and Diane Ziegenfelder; SEVENTEEN GRANDCHILDREN – Brian Smith and Stacy Quinn, Kevin Smith, Travis Kustrzyk, Chris Kustrzyk, Jim Reeves, Eric Reeves, Kevin and Samantha Davis, Jon Davis, Nick and Tammy Ingles, Tim Ingles and Michelle Wisniewski, Scott Ingles, Shannon Ingles, Gregory Ziegenfelder, Daniel Ziegenfelder, Alex Ziegenfelder, Ariana Ziegenfelder, and Baby Ziegenfelder; TWO GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN – Kenny and Cambrie Smith. Other survivors include SIBLINGS and their spouses – Eileen and Jack Gallagher, Bob and Marge Ziegenfelder, Norm and Carol Ziegler, Carol Swantek, Paula and Gary Jaeckle, and Ellen and Clare Janis; IN-LAWS Germaine Krivens, Bob Kohn, Michael Krivens, and Patricia and Larry Nasser; and NIECES and NEPHEWS – 18 Nieces, 25 Nephews, 10 Nieces-in-law, 9 Nephews-in-law, 24 Grandnieces, 32 Grandnephews, 2 Grandnieces-in-law, 1 Grandnephew-in-law, 2 Great-grandnieces, and 4 Great-grandnephews. He will be missed. Visitation 3-9 Monday and Tuesday L.C.Friederichs & Son, funeral home. Rosary 6 PM Tuesday. Wednesday in state at St. Mary’s from 10:30 till 11 AM when funeral mass will be said.
