Agness A. Haas

Agness Anne Haas, 95, died Tuesday, October 3rd, in River District Hospital, after a long illness. She was born June 11, 1911, in Riga, Michigan and had lived in St. Clair since 1949. Agness grew up in Adrian, the daughter of Rev. John and Hannah Mast Nicolai. After high school, she attended Adrian College before receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1933. She then worked for Lutheran Social Services in Detroit before her marriage to Christian B. Haas in 1935. The ceremony was performed by her father in the Lutheran Church in Adrian. Agness was preceded in death by her husband and parents; her eldest son, Arthur; her sisters, Esther, Minetta, Linda, Doris and Palma; and her brother, Milton. She was a very dedicated member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in St. Clair, where she was a long time Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir, amongst numerous other local and regional evangelical activities. She was a lifetime member of the St. Clair Music Study Club. She was also on the Board of Directors of Blue Water Plastics, Inc. and became Chairman of the Board after her husband passed away in 1979. Agness is survived by her children, Linda Forster (William), Carl Haas (Beverly), and John Haas (Cynthia) all of St. Clair; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Garbutt of Panama City Beach, Florida, and sister-in-law Elizabeth Henderson of Lacey, Washington. She is further survived by her grandchildren David Haas, Michelle Lather (Brantley), Christine Zaslavsky (Arthur), John W. Haas (Denae), James Forster (Darlene), Scott Forster (Debbie), Patrick Forster (Megen), Nicole Kollock (Alex), Heather Haas, Heidi Haas, Elijah Haas, and Jason Haas. Her great-grandchildren are Jolene Brooks (Brian), Jeremy Haas, Jenelle Haas, Henry Lather, Conrad Lather, Sarah Lather, Christian Haas, Joy Haas, Emmie Haas, Nicholas Forster, Evan Forster, Gregory Forster, Brenden Forster, McKenna Forster, and Abigail Forster. She was recently blessed with a great-great granddaughter, Emily Brooks. She was a warm, caring friend to all and greatly loved by those who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her devoted caregivers; Nancy Wolff, Marlene Brinker, Barb Desero, Gladys Bennett, and Karen Rademacher, who will serve as honorary pallbearers. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 5th from 2PM till 9PM in the L.C. Friederichs & Son Funeral Home, St. Clair. There will be additional visitation at St Peters Lutheran Church on Friday at 930 prior to the funeral service to be held at IO30. Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall Memorials may be made to the St Peters Lutheran Church Improvement fund, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the St Clair Music Club Endowment fund, care of the Community Foundation
