History & Staff
We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.
When we sit down with a family, we have just one goal: to create a fitting, memorable and affordable service for their loved one. Together, we explore the wide variety of services and products available, as well as a wealth of creative ideas and suggestions.
Together, we'll design a memorial or funeral service that suits their needs now, and in the future. Families who come to us know that years from now, they will have deep peace-of-mind because in coming to us, they've done their best to honor their loved one.
Our History
Lawrence Friederichs moved to St. Clair in 1919 and opened a funeral home in 1920 in the basement of what was then the post office.
In 1938 he moved the funeral home to its present location. The building then was known as the "Dale" home built in 1888 by lumber dealer Gene Smith "The white pine king of Michigan" as a wedding gift for his daughter.
Lawrence continued to be active in the business until his death in 1968.
In 1942 Lawrence was joined in the firm by his son, George L."Bud" Friederichs. Bud was a licensed director for 59 years, until his death in 2004.
In 1975 Jim Friederichs, representing the third generation of the Friederichs family to enter into funeral service, joined the firm. In 2005 the Friederichs Funeral Home and the Young Funeral Home also in St.Clair, joined together to serve the families of the area better. Jim Friederichs is the manager of the L.C.Friederichs & Son Funeral Home, owned by Randy Young.
